This hostel
has free breakfast, which is the usual white bread and jam but it also has a
few cereal options. I had a little bit of that and then made my way to KL
sentral. They’ve made getting to the F1 really easy and it took just over an
hour to get there via train & coach.
I arrived
just gone 11, had a little look around and then went to find my hill entrance
to check out the view and so I knew where it was later. The view was better
than I expected for £18 and there were quite a lot of trees at the top of the
hill, which provided some shade in the baking sun! I went back to the main
entrance where a meet and greet signing thing was being held and managed to see Gutierrez, Niko and Alonso. Why couldn’t it have been JB or at least Hamilton?
I then left
there and met the boys for some lunch. They are sitting in a different stand to
me so we had arranged to meet at 12.30 the day before. They had all these food
stands with white titles telling you what they were but ‘fried chicken’ was
actually KFC and we went for ‘Peri Peri’, which was Nandos of course! It was
better than the one in NZ but not as good as home, it was tasty enough to fill
me up.
Pre race
stuff was about to start up so we went to our gates and watched the drivers go
around on an open top bus, do some practice laps and then the national anthem.
The race started at 4 and I was just after the first bend which was a good and
a bad thing. Every time the cars lapped they’d read out the order but the cars
were too loud to hear where they were, so I kinda had to guess. It was a really
cool experience to be involved in and obviously a Brit winning it and hearing
your own national anthem made it even better!
There was a
Calvin Harris concert after the race but my ticket didn’t include it so I
didn’t bother paying more money to go, I just made my way back to KL city but
it took forever! Pretty much just crashed out when I got back but luckily I
only had a small patch on my arm and my nose that were burnt. I’m doing well!
