On my walk
yesterday I saw signs for a St Patricks day parade so when I went back to the
apartment I googled and found out there was indeed such thing on. The parade
started around midday but there were pre and post events happening. Just as I was
about to leave the heavens opened and it absolutely hammered it down! I found
an umbrella and went out to watch the parade anyway. The best thing about it
raining was most people stepped back and were under shelters meaning I could
get a great spot. I watched quite a bit of it before heading down the road to
the Australian Museum to shelter from the rain. Quite a few other people had
joined me on that thought by the looks of it as I had to queue about 10minutes
to buy a ticket.
The museum
is the oldest in Australia, opening in 1855, and was originally called the
Colonial Museum. It contains natural history, zoology, the wildlife and history
of Australia. There are around 120,000 deaths in Australia every year and you’d
assume a lot of these are from snakes, crocs and sharks but that only makes up
for about 10 so the dangerous reputation people give this country isn’t that
fair.
I went back
to the apartment about 4 as the first F1 of the season started at 5 here in
Australia. I debated about heading over to Melbourne to watch it but lucky for
me I discovered I’m in Kuala Lumpur for the next race so I’ve just bought a
ticket to that instead! Val got in not long after me so we settled down to
watch the race. It was dramatic and lost a third of the drivers but what a
great start to the season! For dinner we had some Vietnamese food getting me in
the mood for Asia, the food as always was amazing and now I know what a noodle
salad is.
